Why is this research important?
Many commercially important fishery species are under threats that endanger their long-term viability. All animals move for their survival, either for food, protection from predators, to reproduce, or even as a response to climate change. We seek to better understand the nature of specific species behaviors within their habitat and look to understand the impact human intervention is having upon marine species populations. Our goal is to allow us to better manage all species, but especially economically important species, by protecting essential habitat/s, manage fish stocks and, ensuring areas that are open to fishing are informed about practices that will sustain marine species populations and human livelihoods.
